Richard Trice, Former Mayor of Suwanee

Catching up with former mayor of Suwanee Richard Trice is not easy, as he is often playing golf, volunteering his talent and time around Suwanee at The Orchard and community garden, or helping friends with various jobs. To say he’s a busy man would be an understatement.

What inspired you or led you to your current career?
I decided to be on the city council after attending a meeting and realizing the growth that was about to hit, and I wanted to be involved. I sold my business six years ago and I now volunteer at The Orchard and Harvest Park Garden, The Hooch Golf Club, Suwanee Business Alliance, Annandale Village Jazzy Festival, and others. I like to be involved with the community and bother people [laughs].

What is your favorite restaurant in Suwanee and what do you love there?

How long have you worked or lived in Suwanee?
34 years

What has kept you here?
I like it!

Who is the most interesting person you’ve met in Suwanee?
Tom Mitchell, a former city councilman, because of his forward thinking.

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
Scandinavia, specifically Norway.

What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theatre?
The Sound of Music

What advice would you give a crowd of people?
Don’t let Suwanee get too big. Connect with your friends and neighbors and keep in contact. Get together with people — they usually come to my house because I cook so well!

What is something on your bucket list?
Just to live a good life, make friends and some money.

If you could take anyone to lunch (dead or alive) who would that be and where would you go?
Chris Yoder.  Hammerheads Seafood Restaurant.

What is your favorite music?
’60s and ’70s rock. Billy Joel is a favorite.

What local business makes you the most nostalgic about Suwanee?
Suwanee Magazine, because they connect the community.  Also the City of Suwanee with their newsletter.

What is your favorite thing about Suwanee?
The people here who are involved. I love Town Center and seeing everyone having a great time.  I love the parks.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Still alive and doing the same as today.

What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I love to read books.
