Ray Stanjevich & Suzanne Cartwright, Owners of Friends Restaurant

It was not an easy task to get Ray and Suzanne in the same place at the same time! Busy running several restaurants in surrounding towns, these two live life large and somehow manage to get it all done. They are hard-working, generous people who truly make a difference in the lives of everyone they meet.

What inspired you or led you to your current career?
We wanted to work for ourselves and we have become very good at it! We love what we do, as well as our customers and restaurants. We also love the daily opportunity to give back.

What is your favorite restaurant in Suwanee?
Friends of course!  We know the quality of our food and at the end of the day, we would rather go there than any other place!

How long have you worked or lived in Suwanee?
7 years.

Who is the most interesting person you’ve met in Suwanee?
Dick Goodman, city councilman.

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
Ray: Sicily. Suzanne’s father is from here and she would love to see where he lived.
Suzanne: An Alaskan cruise, but Ray says it’s too cold for that!

What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
Dr. Zhivago

What advice would you give a crowd of people?
Consider not being part of the crowd, be an individual.

What is your favorite music?  Name three bands you would like to see.
Ray:  Heavy metal, ’80-’90s.
Suzanne: Lots of different kinds —Jack Johnson, Lincoln Park, etc.

What local business makes you the most nostalgic about Suwanee?
Ray: Wilkes Meat Market because they do it the old-fashioned way by cutting meats and special ordering.
Suzanne: Mori House because they have been in Suwanee for a long time. They now have competition next door and have stepped up their game to compete and stay in business.

What is your favorite thing about Suwanee?
We love that Suwanee is close to everything but not too close. We feel safe here and feel that the city of Suwanee is helpful, progressive and thinks things through its planning.

Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?
Early retirement.

What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
Ray: I love to play chess on my cell phone when I’m at home.
Suzanne: I have a huge heart and don’t necessarily want everyone (mainly employees) to know this!  ☺
