Executive Barbers was the very first business to open in Suwanee’s Town Center Park in 2006 and is still thriving today in its quaint space next to Ippolito’s. A favorite among locals in need of a real barber, owner Steve Lederman is well-known and very well-liked in our community for his expertise, friendliness and willingness to be involved and make a difference.

What inspired you or led you to your current career?

My wife, at the time, went to barber school and so did I. We practiced on our friends and they didn’t mind because it was free! I wasn’t sure what I wanted to be when I grew up at that time (and still not sure some days) but the profession interested me and I wanted to be part of the Suwanee community. My first barber shop was located off Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road in 2002, and then I moved to Town Center in 2006.

What is your favorite restaurant in Suwanee?

Cheeky Taqueria has been a favorite for years because of its atmosphere and great food, and I also enjoy the new Tequila Mama restaurant in Town Center for the same reasons. I presently live in Sugar Hill.

How long have you worked or lived in Suwanee?

I’ve worked here since 2002, so 17 years.

What has kept you here?

Location, location, location!

How big is your family?

My girlfriend Linda and two cats, Phoebe and Mama Mia. Most people remember my dog Jasper (now deceased) who came to work every day with me for 11 years. People used to call him “the mayor of Suwanee.” Everyone knew Jasper! He even got a police badge from the Suwanee Citizen’s Police Department.

Who is the most interesting person you’ve met in Suwanee?

I would have to say Nick Masino. I was impressed with him the first time we met and he was instrumental in helping me set up my business here. He has a great and close family. When I have questions, he has answers. He was one of my first customers!

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?

Australia and Alaska because of the natural beauty, and parts of the West again.

What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?

I worked in a movie theater when I was a teenager but I honesty cannot remember the first one that I saw! I felt like I saw ALL of them back in those days.

What advice would you give a crowd of people?

If I was talking to kids, I would advise them to stay in school, work hard and to go after what you want. I believe going to trade school is a really good idea these days. I think kids these days are kind of soft and need to work hard with their hands to appreciate hard work.

What is something on your bucket list?

Traveling. I have done quite a bit of long-distance driving and seen some great places in California, Canada, Florida, etc., and would like to do more.

If you could take anyone to lunch (dead or alive) who would that be?

Brett Favre and Reggie White.

What is your favorite music? Name three bands you would like to see.

I’m a classic rock guy. I wish I had seen The Beatles all together, and would love again to see The Allman Brothers and The Eagles. I have been to so many concerts! Linda loves country music so we go see Keith Urban and others.

What local business makes you the most nostalgic about Suwanee?

My shop – Executive Barbers!

What is your favorite thing about Suwanee?

The people.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Still alive, hopefully, and possibly living in Florida at a Latitude Margaritaville 55+ retirement neighborhood, eventually.

What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

I am not comfortable speaking in front of people. Each year I am involved with the St. Baldrick’s Childhood Cancer Research and help raise awareness and money. In 2010, someone approached me whose child was going through chemo to shave heads of a group of his son’s friends to raise money, so we still do this every year on the stage at Town Center. We have a DJ, donations, prizes and a great time for a great cause.
