We were so happy to find someone from the local healthcare community with everything we all have been through this year. Lauralane “Laney” Perdue is a beautiful, kind, funny and caring nurse and a wonderful person in so many ways.

What inspired you or led you to your current career?
I’ve always known I wanted to work with children, whether it was as a pediatric nurse or an elementary school teacher. However, my heart decided to go for pediatric nursing after hearing many stories from my childhood best friend about her battle with cancer at just 7 years old. Hearing her memories and stories of her and her nurses during her treatment, and even staying in touch with them after treatment, made me realize how amazing that would be to have that kind of an impact on someone in my lifetime! I am a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology nurse and have worked at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for seven years now, and I truly cannot imagine doing anything else!

What is your favorite restaurant in Suwanee and what do you love there?
I’d have to say Mori House is definitely one of my favorites, and their sushi Dragon Roll, Smack Yo Mama Roll, and of course fried rice is the best!

How long have you worked or lived in Suwanee?
I was born and raised here! I currently live in Atlanta to be closer to work, but my family still lives in Suwanee and I’ll always call it home.

What has kept you here?
My family and the community. It’s home!

How big is your family?
There are four of us in my immediate family. We have a big extended family, step family, and pets in our family though, too!

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why? Ireland! My best friend was born there, moved to Suwanee when she was 3 years old, and moved back after college! I’ve visited her a few times now, and each trip is absolutely incredible. We had another trip planned for this June, but sadly had to postpone due to COVID-19. I’d do anything to be there right now!

What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
I think The Rugrats Movie!

What advice would you give a crowd of people?
In a world where you can be anything, be kind. 🙂

What is something on your bucket list?
My bucket list consists of many travel destinations like Australia, Greece, Lake Banff in Canada, Paris and so much more, but something else that’s on my bucket list is to ride horses on the beach!

If you could take anyone to lunch (dead or alive) who would that be and where would you go?
Chatting with Jesus on a beach (or anywhere!) would be pretty amazing! I’d also do anything to be able to meet my dad’s dad, Grandpa Carlton. I’ve heard his hilarious jokes and stories my whole life, so I feel like I know him. However, I sadly never got the chance to meet him, but my family says he was one of a kind!

What is your favorite music? Name three bands you would like to see.
I like all music, really. Country, pop, acoustic, and even rap! If I could only pick three, I’d love to see John Mayer, Drake, and Carrie Underwood!

What local business makes you the most nostalgic about Suwanee?

Unfortunately, most local businesses from my childhood have closed or moved. So instead of a “business” I’d have to say Suwanee Elementary School makes me the most nostalgic about Suwanee. I recently walked the Suwanee Greenway and ended up at Suwanee Elementary’s playground, and it felt like I was 8 years old again! So many memories over the years at that school, where I met my best friends and had the greatest teachers!

What is your favorite thing about Suwanee?
How family-friendly and family-oriented it is! I have so many memories from growing up here, and although it’s changed in many ways and keeps growing, it has also stayed the same in some ways! My favorite place to go is Town Center and the Suwanee Greenway!

Would you rather speak to a crowd of 500 or sing to a crowd of 50?
Speak, for sure!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Happily married to my college sweetheart and current boyfriend, Matt, with three children, living in a beautiful home in Suwanee! I plan to always work as a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology nurse, but being a mom is definitely my biggest dream!

What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

I’m really not that cool, so this question is difficult to answer. I don’t have a middle name, I’ve had 14 teeth pulled, and I broke my neck when I was 16 years old in a car accident. Those few fun facts always seem to have good stories behind them, so I’d say those are the most interesting things about me, if I had to choose!
