I’ve always wanted just a splash of the energy of Keith Nabb has. He always seems to be on the go — owning his business, supporting the arts, attending City events and traveling. It was a lot of fun interviewing him to learn more about him and his passion for living.

What inspired you or led you to your current career?
When I first started my family, I wanted to choose a career that would allow me to spend time with my family and be available to take my kids to sports or coaching. I didn’t want to travel, so owning my own business made the most sense.

What is your favorite restaurant in Suwanee and what do you love there?
Qebaptore, but it closed. We are not really restaurant people.  The new Tequila Mama restaurant at Town Center has been fun so far. It has a great atmosphere.

How long have you worked or lived in Suwanee?
22 years at three different residences.

What has made you want to stay?
The art community, festivals, and energy. I wanted to help build the community.

How big is your family?
My four grown daughters, my girlfriend Layla, and Biscuit my dachshund.

Who is the most interesting person you’ve met in Suwanee?
Denise Brinson with the City.  She is a connector and visionary.  There are a lot of interesting people in Suwanee!

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I’m planning a trip to Peru and Bolivia. I love interesting artifacts and I’m a fan of ancient aliens, so I’m very excited.

What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theatre?
I grew up going to the Fox Theatre in Atlanta as a young boy and saw many Disney classics — Snowball Express and Song of the South.

What advice would you give a crowd of people?
I would inspire people to shake hands and meet people rather than staying in their own group of friends. Don’t stay isolated. Where I live now, everyone says hello and doesn’t hide inside their homes.

What is something on your bucket list?
Space tourism.  I’d like to take a high altitude balloon ride to see the curvature of the earth!

What is your favorite music?  Name three bands you would like to see?
Progressive rock. I love Muse and Rush, and I’ve been to at least 500 concerts in my life.  I would love to have seen Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and I’m planning to see Carlos Santana soon.

What local business makes you the most nostalgic about Suwanee?
The old Dillard’s BBQ that’s now closed, and the old McDonald’s where patrons could sit out back and watch the Atlanta Falcons practice.

Choose anyone (past or present and a non-relative) with whom you would love to have lunch.  Where would you go locally for this lunch?
Benjamin Franklin who was a Renaissance guy and free-thinker. More modern day: John Glenn or Edgar Mitchell or any astronaut. I would take them to classic Atlanta places like Dantes, Trader Vic’s, the Sun Dial, or Nikolai’s Roof.

What is your favorite thing about Suwanee?
The arts. I serve on the Art Commission, and I am the past president of and still heavily involved in the North Gwinnett Arts Association and have volunteered my time.  It is a very apolitical way to build a community.  I love the way we do the arts in Suwanee.  We lease the sculptures and only keep what people love, so we don’t end up with a bunch of art that people hate.

Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?
I expect my business will double in five years and will be looking into retirement in 10 years.

What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I do a lot of traveling and from early on, I read a lot of books on goal setting and learned how to create free space in my life. We do a good job of collaboration in Suwanee. Just raise your hand and get connected in the community social services. Cities and counties cannot do it all! There are so many great organizations here.
